Tanote Peak and West Coast Viewpoint Hike
A Guide to Hiking to the Tanote Peak and West Coast Viewpoint Koh Tao
Difficulty - 4/10
Distance - 6kms ~
Time - 2-3 hrs
Directions
To get to the View points if you are are starting from Saree Beach is approximately 6km's.
If you navigate to "Hanuman 420 Koh Tao, A, 5/11 m.1 t, Koh Phangan - Koh Tao, Thailand" You will come across a poorly maintained steep concrete road.
Take the concrete road till it ends, take the steep dirt track (looks rather like a water path) to your right. Keep climbing on this dirt track through tropical forests till you reach the “Twin Rock’ intersection. At this point, you should be able to see both the west and east coast of Koh Tao.
Continue going straight from here, and you will come across Tanote Bay.
To reach the west coast mountain view point, you have to take the track turning left. Not far off this turn you will notice two large rocks to your left. It is here that you will have to climb up the small rocks and go between the 2 large rocks to reach the large flat rock on which the 2 rocks sit. and the incredible view point. Be careful as there is a steep drop off!
This is a non technical hike but is well worth the views. At times it can be a slow steep grind so be sure to bring lots of water and some snacks. The views of the west coast of Koh Tao are beautiful!
